By Water

  • Charts 18456 or 18448 are recommended to navigate Budd Inlet. The entrance to Budd Inlet is a mile wide between Dofflemyer Point and Cooper Point and deep enough for all recreational boats.
  • From the north, round Dofflemyer Point and head for downtown Olympia. Continue past Olympia Shoal, marked by lighted beacons on the shoal's east and west sides.
  • From Olympia Shoal, pick up the 28' deep dredged and buoyed channel that leads into the harbor. A spoils bank from channel dredging lies east of the channel. The spoils are quite shoal. Parts of it are dry, so stay in the channel.
  • The channel branches at a piling intersection marker. Follow the eastern leg to Swantown Marina & Boatworks.
  • The western or main channel leads past the Port of Olympia marine shipping terminal. Just south of the marine terminal, in front of Port Plaza and viewing tower, is the Port Plaza guest moorage.
  • Waggoner Cruising Guide.
